‘Houdini’ Trailer Shows Adrien Brody In Iconic Role [Video]

The first Houdini trailer has dropped, giving us a glimpse of Adrien Brody as the iconic escape artist.

Harry Houdini was a powerhouse magician, always pushing the boundaries of his own body and mortality in death defying escapes for large audiences to witness. Eventually the daredevil attitude he had toward his craft caught up with him, but not before making himself a legend.

An upcoming two-part TV movie on the History Channel is set to bring the illusionist back to life once more. For the role, they needed someone who could maintain absolute focus in front of the camera.

Young Adrien was the son of a TV journalist and grew up comfortable around a camera, making him a natural to play such a demanding role as this one.

Though Christopher Nolan may have been inspired by Harry Houdini when he filmed The Prestige, this TV movie takes the story in a different direction. The Houdini trailer shows us that the legendary escape artist may have been involved in a disturbing love triangle with his wife Bess (Kristen Connolly) and his mother (Eszter Ónodi).

Descriptions for the story of Houdini give more of a Forrest Gump spin on it:

“Follow the man behind the magic as he finds fame, engages in espionage, battles spiritualists and encounters the greatest names of the era, from U.S. presidents to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Grigori Rasputin.”

Some in the audience might tune in just to simply see Adrien Brody in chains, but others will likely tune in to see what appears to be a dramatized version of the life of Harry Houdini.

This may be his best role since The Pianist, having starred in Peter Jackson’s King Kong and the gritty Predators before landing a role in The Grand Budapest Hotel.
