Adrian Peterson Signs $100 Million Contract With Minnesota Vikings

Adrian Peterson - Minnesota Vikings

Adrian Peterson is $100 million richer thanks to a new contract he signed with the Minnesota Vikings over the weekend.

Under terms of the 7-year-deal Peterson will be guaranteed $36 million and comes after the Vikings sealed a deal just five days ago with linebacker Chad Greenway.

The question was never when the Vikings would sign Peterson to a multi-year deal but rather how much they would pay him as his rookie year deal which pays him $10.72 million was coming to an end after this season.

During the last four seasons Peterson has been selected for the Pro Bowl and already has the second most rushing yards in team history, right behind Robert Smith who racked up 5,782 yards and 54 touchdowns.

According to Peterson’s agent Ben Dogra in a phone interview with the Associated Press:

“Adrian loves playing for the Minnesota Vikings,” while adding, “Deep inside he wanted to finish his career with the Minnesota Vikings.”

Even if Peterson only manages to finish five of his next seven years he’ll still manage to rack up $65 million.

In a public statement team owner Zygi Wilf said of the teams decision to secure Peterson’s talents:

“Adrian’s performances on the field have given fans so much excitement since he first joined us as a rookie,” while he adds, “His talent and determination are remarkable and we are proud to have him be a part of the family for years to come.”

Peterson will be putting his $100 million legs to the test when the Minnesota Vikings take on the San Diego Chargers this Sunday. Peterson ran for 296-yards against the Chargers during their first meet.

Do you believe the $100 million contract for 7 years was worth the teams cash?

Gee, for that money they could have built a new stadium, oh, that's right, the taxpayer has to pay for it. The Vikings have been wimpy ever since they moved indoors from Metropolitan Stadium under Bud Grant.
