Bernie Hamilton, “Starsky and Hutch” Actor, Dies

Bernie Hamilton: Starsky and HutchBernie Hamilton, an actor made famous for his role as the police captain on “Starsky and Hutch,” has died. Hamilton suffered cardiac arrest Tuesday night at a Los Angeles hospital. He was 80 years old.

Bernie Hamilton made more than 20 movies in his Hollywood career, but his turn as Captain Harold Dobey on the 70s-era series “Starsky and Hutch” — a role that, incidentally, started as a guest appearance — may be the part for which he is most remembered. Hamilton played alongside David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser in 68 episodes over a four year span.

Bernie Hamilton’s movies include “The Devil at 4 O’Clock,” “The Young One,” “Walk the Walk,” and “The Swimmer.” He spent his later years producing R&B and gospel records with a record label called Chocolate Snowman.
