Mariah Carey Bids Farewell To Producer Jermaine Dupri

Mariah Carey reportedly kicked long-time producer Jermaine Dupri to the curb after her latest album failed to set the charts on fire.

Although Dupri is responsible for bringing some of Mariah’s biggest hits to life, it would seem their relationship in the studio has fizzled a bit in recent years. After releasing a handful of lackluster singles and experiencing several lengthy delays, Carey’s Me. I am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse finally hit retail shelves to the sound of crickets and a collective shrug from music fans.

According to Bang Showbiz, Mariah Carey recently said goodbye to Jermaine Dupri. While neither party has commented on the split as of this writing, anonymous sources seem to think it’s a done deal. In fact, insiders believe the singer has already teamed up with producer Kevin Liles for her next endeavor.

Of course, this seems to contradict Dupri future plans with Mariah:

“I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to my work. I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do, then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.”

Page Six reports that Mariah’s decision to find a new producer is directly related to the dismal album sales she experienced earlier this summer. As of this writing, I am Mariah has moved approximately 100,000 units. While some artists would love to sell this many records, it’s an extremely small number compared to the Carey’s early days.

“When you’re working with one person for so long, and you’re not selling any records, it’s time to make a change,” someone close to the situation told the publication.

The Inquisitr previously reported that Dupri and Mariah Carey recently joined forces to release the beverage Butterfly, a concoction one person said tasted a little like soap. Yikes. While it seemed that everything was fine and dandy at the time, apparently there were some things taking place behind-the-scenes that were kept away from prying eyes.

However, fans definitely let Jermaine know that they weren’t happy with the promotion for Mariah’s new record. Instead of keeping their feelings bottled up and stored away, they let Dupri know exactly know they felt on social media.

The veteran producer had this to say about the situation:

“Okay enough is enough!! I can’t continue to let you think, what you see or don’t see is a result of me not knowing what I’m doing, this is bigger than me and in the music business things don’t go as fast as you would always like them to, if you know my history, you know I want to go down as one of the greatest produces of all times, I want to be mentioned with the greats like berry Gordy and Clive Davis when people talk about putting out artist, so for me, allowing you to believe I don’t care about the promotion of the Mariah record and I don’t see you screaming at me, that this song and that song needs to be a single, goes against everything that I’m about, believe me.”
