‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Star Attacks ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Director

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Josh Brolin might have only been a member of Marvel’s cinematic team for one film, but he’s already got in a quick shot at DC, the studio’s biggest rival.

Brolin, who played Thanos in James Gunn’s hugely successful sci-fi space opera, has previously confirmed that he held discussions with Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice director Zack Snyder about playing the Dark Knight/Bruce Wayne in the hugely anticipated superhero hybrid.

During a discussion with IGN, he made an obvious joke about Snyder’s past as a music video director, explaining that Marvel’s films are better than their rivals’ because their filmmakers are more concerned with plot and substance rather than style.

Speaking about Marvel, Brolin declared: “There’s something about them that’s so insular and so geeky and so real. I loved it – because I’ve turned down a lot of those types of movies. Not Marvel, but I’ve turned down a lot of those types of movies.”

He then added, “Another thing that I really loved is, they said that they didn’t use directors that did music videos and all that in the past. They would always look for people who had done stories. If you look at James Gunn’s oeuvre, he’s done even web series, but they’re all stories.”

Snyder got his start directing videos for Lizzy Borden, Morrissey, Soul Asylum, Paul Westerberg, Dionne Farris, Heather Nova, and My Chemical Romance. He then moved onto feature films with Dawn Of The Dead, which was actually written by Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Gunn, and he has since honed his craft by overseeing production on Watchmen, 300, and Man Of Steel.

In the past, Brolin has admitted that talks didn’t go swimmingly for the Batman V Superman because they ultimately disagreed on the filmmaker’s vision for the film. Back in March he told Total Film, “Me and Zack had a conversation about it and there were several reasons why we said it wasn’t the best idea on both sides. I had mine and Zack had his.” Brolin then added that Snyder’s version of the character was overly “cool,” and that he didn’t like the fact that Batman constantly deployed clever lines.

Of course Ben Affleck ultimately went on to be cast as Bruce Wayne in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which is currently being shot in Detroit. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice will be released on March 26, 2018, while Brolin’s Thanos is expected to appear in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which will hit cinemas on May 1, 2015.
