‘Batman V Superman’: Dark Knight Origin Details Different From Past Films

Recent pictures emerged from the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set in Detroit, Michigan showing Ben Affleck and a partially destroyed Wayne Financial building. New details came out today on the Dark Knight’s origins and how they fit in with the new DC Cinematic Universe established with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Warning: This may be considered spoiler material, so be wary if you’re not ready for details on Batman V Superman.

This new information about Batman comes from Badass Digest‘s Dean Faraci and lines up with the images of Affleck shown on the movie set.

My sources indicate that when [Batman V Superman] opens Batman has existed for close to thirty years, which would place Wayne in his 50s (which is why I expected more grey in Affleck’s hair). In this version Batman is still an urban legend, a creature of the night, and no one has ever taken his picture. But he’s had plenty of adventures, and the Batcave includes a memorial centered around a tattered Robin costume.

Faraci also dished some details on what Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman has been up to as well.

By the way, my sources tell me that Wonder Woman has also been in operation for some time before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice* begins, and her activities have been just as secretive as Batman’s. Her activities were badass as well… but in a very different, and unexpected, way.

The news about Ben Affleck’s Batman is not particularly surprising at this point. As The Inquisitr has covered before, this take on the super hero borrows heavily from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns series of comic books based on a leaked image from the San Diego Comic-Con 2014 trailer. A 55-year old Batman comes out of retirement in the four-issue run due to the increasing crime and chaos in Gotham City. He eventually goes toe-to-toe with a still youthful Superman on the city streets.

Snyder’s adaptation in Batman v Superman will differ significantly, however. This will be the first time the two characters will meet in this treatment, and Superman is still in his 30s while Batman is approximately 20 years older. Past film runs of the Caped Crusader by Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan treated him as in his early-to-mid-30s and relatively new at fighting crime on the streets of Gotham.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released to theaters on May 6, 2016. It is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Henry Cavill (Clark Kent / Superman), Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne / Batman), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince / Wonder Woman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred), Ray Fisher (Victor Stone / Cyborg), Holly Hunter, and Scoot McNairy.
