John Denver’s Aspen Home For Sale: Starwood Estate Carries $10.75 Million Price Tag

John Denver’s Aspen, Colorado home is for sale, and it has a $10.75 million price tag attached to it. The current owners purchased the house after Denver died in a plane crash in 1997. The 6,000-square-foot home had been the singer’s primary residence until his death.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Starwood home was built by John Denver and his wife Annie in the early 1970s. It was expanded in the years after that, and it was sold to its current unnamed owners for $3.68 million some time after Denver’s passing in 1997. It seems that the owners are selling now because it was a vacation home for them and with their children now grown, they don’t use it much.

Known for his ties to Colorado, the singer built quite the oasis that will surely appeal to potential buyers. John Denver’s Aspen Starwood home sits on about 7.6 acres and has six bedrooms. There are four wood-burning fireplaces along with a swimming pool. Naturally there are decks that are positioned so those at the home can take in the magnificent views of the Colorado mountains that Denver embraced so fully.

The current owners have made some changes and improvements to the home over the years. They expanded the living room, it seems, but the home is still very much what John Denver’s Aspen home is known for with his style and personality throughout. There is also a guest house on the property, which Denver used as a recording studio. The Daily Mail notes that the Starwood estate boasts about 9,100 square feet once the guest house is factored in, and photos show it is a stunning property.

John Denver died in October 1997 at the age of 53 when his plane crashed. He was in an experimental Rutan Long-EZ plane and fans of the singer were stunned when it crashed into the ocean near California’s Pacific Grove. The singer is fondly remembered for his songs such as “Annie’s Song,” “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders” and “Rocky Mountain High.”

It appears there are a few projects a new homeowner will probably take on in terms of updates, but if a fan of the iconic singer purchases the home, it would seem likely any changes would be fairly minor to maintain the rich history of the estate. Between the stunning views, the history of the home and the high-end touches, many would imagine that it will not be terribly difficult to sell John Denver’s Aspen home.
