Xbox One Teases Big Surprises For Gamescom, What Will Be Revealed?

With Xbox One sales trailing the PS4, Microsoft has a chance to make a splash at Gamescom 2014 and try to gain some traction in the European market. The company released a teaser trailer Friday that promises “big surprises” for what will be revealed, though there is a heavy presence of Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Gamescom 2014 is taking place in Cologne, Germany from Monday, August 11th through Friday, August 15th. Things will kick off that Monday at 1 p.m. EST (18:00 BST / 19:00 CEST) with the world premiere of the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer. Expect a heavy Xbox One presence there due to Activision’s and Microsoft’s long-running partnership with the series.

Microsoft’s Gamescom 2014 Xbox briefing will follow on Tuesday at 8 a.m. EST (13:00 BST / 14:00 CEST). Both events will be livestreamed on Xbox LIVE for the Xbox One and Xbox 360, Xbox.com and Windows Phone. The Xbox Twitch channel will also be livestreaming the events as well as post-presentation events all through the week.

With the preliminaries of when and where Xbox fans can find information, what games information will actually be revealed? Games releasing this fall seem assured. That would include the aforementioned Call of Duty plus Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark, Killer Instinct: Season 2, Evolve, FIFA 15, and Project Spark. Remedy Entertainment’s Quantum Break should also draw plenty of attention since the time-bending action game purposefully skipped E3 to prepare a big reveal during Gamescom.

There’s a chance that there could also be announcements for Fable Legends, D4, Scalebound though a push for some of the indie games such as Below and Ori and the Blind Forest seems more likely. Don’t expect to see much of anything for Crackdown, Gears of War, or Halo 5.

Is a white Xbox One coming?

It’s possible a new flavor of the Xbox One could also be revealed. A French retailer listed a white Xbox One bundle that comes with Sunset Overdrive.

The Xbox One Gamescom performance by Microsoft will be critical to the future of the console. While it trails the PS4 in the United States, the gap is not worryingly wide. The same can’t be said for Europe where Sony’s console is available in more countries and is outselling the Xbox One enough to make the worldwide sales gap worrying for Microsoft.

Sony’s PS4 conference will take place on Monday, August 11th at 2 p.m. EST (19:00 BST, 20:00 CEST).
