Ariana Grande Offers Hope For Justin Bieber Duet: ‘We Will Finish It’

Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber are arguably the two biggest superstars in pop music today. So when news broke that the duo might be working on a new song together, their fans were giddy with excitement. That song however has yet to see the light of day, though the “Problem” singer recently offered a glimmer of hope — and an explanation for its delay.

It started in May when Canadian diva Justin Bieber posted a photo of himself and Ariana Grande in the studio to his Instagram account. The photo indicated that the pair — who share the same manager — were working on a new song for Grande’s forthcoming sophomore album My Everything. Bieber captioned the photo with the comment: “congrats @arianagrande on your number 1 song. #arianabieberduet??” which only further fueled speculation. And according to an interview with The Associated Press, Ariana admits that, in fact, it was something they were planning to do:

“We were working on it,” Grande told the AP. “We were in the studio together… we were going to do it, but then we both got busy. I had to focus on my stuff and he was focusing on his, and it just sort of didn’t really get done.”

So will Justin and Ariana ever finish recording the song? Grande would like to think so:

“We feel like we owe it to our fans to do something one day. We will finish it and put it out one day, but it just wasn’t the right time.”

Even without a Justin Bieber duet, Ariana Grande is on top of the world. Her smash hit “Problem,” featuring Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, is still topping the charts some 13 weeks since it’s release. Her second single, “Break Free,” is slowly gaining traction on the radio while her latest single, “Bang Bang” featuring Nicki Minaj and Jesse J., dropped this week as well.

As reported by The Inquistir, Ariana is also up for three MTV Video Music Awards, after which My Everything will hit stores.

Her breakout success has one MTV executive comparing her to another pop star of the same mold: Britney Spears. Amy Doyle, MTV’s executive vice president of music and talent programming strategy, told Fox News how she instantly made the connection between Grande and Spears. That thought even helped sparked the decision to resurrect Total Request Live solely for Ariana:

“If ‘TRL’ was around today, Ariana would be a fixture in the same way Britney (Spears) was when Britney was of the moment,” Doyle said. “She was absolutely the perfect artist to [bring back ‘TRL’] because her fans are active and she’s very social.”

Just imagine how big Ariana Grande might be if the duet with Justin Bieber ever came to fruition.
