WWE News: 5 NXT Wrestlers Released Yesterday As Cuts Continue

The cruel and dark week in professional wrestling was officially underway after the WWE Network subscription statistics came out. It was predicted to be a horrible week for wrestling, and the skeptics were correct. Vince McMahon laid off 55 people, the WWE Network only gained around 33,000 subscribers, and Impact Wrestling is on the verge of being cancelled from Spike TV programming.

For talent, it started with Ricardo Rodriguez, who was released by the WWE early this week. Since his duo with Alberto Del Rio ended, he started to train in NXT and announced the WWE pay-per-views for the Spanish viewers.

Yesterday, it was reported that five NXT wrestlers were released from their contracts. The names include Garett Dylan (Jody Kristofferson), Travis Tyler (Sam Udell), Slate Randall, Mac Miles, and Dani Jax. Those wrestlers help account for the 7 percent of employees that WWE let go over the last two days.

It is certainly a dark time for wrestling as ratings continue to drop slightly and one promotion rears its ugly head towards their demise. Unfortunately, the people in charge didn’t get the job done for TNA. Nobody wants to see people lose their jobs.

At times, the WWE looks omnipotent while they sit atop the professional wrestling monopoly. Before TNA was created, WCW actually gave the WWE a run for their money. McMahon didn’t know what to do, except get creative and that’s where the Attitude Era started.

With the likes of Stone Cold, the Rock, Undertaker, Mankind, and many others, the Monday Night Wars were won. With victory came egotistical acts of complacency and suffering for the fans. The rarity of a good storyline seems to be too consistent for the current product.

For the WWE Universe, worrisome attitudes have a reason to be apprehensive about the future. However, NXT is saving the product and showcases some of the best wrestling in the entire world. With the acquisitions of KENTA, Prince Devitt, and hopefully Kevin Steen, it will be the Indy legends all in the same ring.

Speaking of NXT, Triple H just announced their next “NXT Special” that always gets the crowd going with “Match of the Year” accolades.

With that special will come three matches that are rumored to take place. [WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS]

NXT Championship

Adrian Neville (c) vs. Sami Zayn vs. Tyson Kidd vs. Tyler Breeze

NXT Women’s Championship

Charlotte (c) vs. Bailey

NXT Tag Team Championship

The Ascension (c) vs. Kalisto & Sin Cara

Judging from past history, this special will be just as good, if not better, than the previous two. The WWE Universe witnessed two legendary matches from Sami Zayn and Cesaro that brought the house down. Even so, that “Match of the Year” chants began to fill the arena.

With the past week leaving wrestling bleak, the WWE Universe can only hope that the product will get better and order will be restored. NXT surely has things figured out. Remember: that’s Triple H running the show. McMahon still has a say on Raw and Smackdown. One could say that, when HHH takes over the reigns, the quality will vastly improve.
