Unprovoked: Pitbull And Owner’s Friend Stabbed By Another Dog Owner In San Francisco

Pit bulls, American StaffordShire Terrier, StaffordShire Bull Terrier, “Man’s best friend,” sometimes victim of negative press and breed specific bans. Normally, the word “pit bull” and “attack” prompt images of vicious, blood thirsty canines slaughtering innocent children. This has not been the case in San Francisco, California. Early Friday morning, two young men were walking a pit bull when they crossed paths with another dog owner walking his dog. For unspecified reasons, the two dogs began to fight, and the pit bull owner’s friend tried to intervene with the fighting dogs. CBS San Francisco reports:

“A man was standing with his pit bull in the area of Broadway and Kearny streets around 1:30 am, police said. A male suspect approached and fought with the dog, brandished a knife and began to stab the animal, according to police. Another man got into the middle of the fight and was stabbed by the suspect, police said.”

California seems to be a scene of reverse pit bull attacks. Earlier this year, a pit bull was stabbed to death after it was kidnapped while its owner was taking it for a walk. The Inquisitr reported:

“The pit bull was out on a walk with its owner last Friday morning in San Francisco’s Mission district when two men, both in their 20s, threatened them at knifepoint. One of the suspects tried to grab the pit bull at the intersection of 22nd and Bartlett streets. This led to a street fight when the owner tried to defend it.

“The fight ended with the pit bull being stabbed. The pit bull’s owner realized his pit bull was hurt after the two suspects had fled the scene. The owner rushed his pit bull to a nearby animal hospital, where the dog later died of its wounds.”

Friday’s report indicated that this pit bull, and the owner’s friend, were more lucky. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the pit bull owner’s friend was taken to the hospital. The friend, who was described as a male in his 20s, was treated for a cut at a local hospital. Surprisingly, the pit bull itself survived with minor wounds. The San Francisco Chronicle stated:

“‘The dog survived with some superficial cuts,’ said San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza, a department spokesman.”

Despite the disturbing nature of this unprovoked attack on a pit bull and the owner’s friend, and the scant information made available, no further information can be found at this time. Hopefully, the attacker will be found and brought to justice.
