Foo Fighters Finish Latest Album, Announces Premiere Date For HBO Documentary

Foo Fighters’ eighth studio album is finally finished. The great news was revealed by producer Butch Vig on his Twitter account describing it as “EPIC.”

According to Consequences of Sound, the album, which is yet to be titled, will be released in November. Foo Fighters recorded the album in eight different studios spread across the country — New York, Washington DC, New Orleans, Seattle, Los Angeles, Nashville, Austin, and Chicago. Musicians from these cities will also be featured in the upcoming album.

Recording the long-awaited album took a while for the band, as frontman Dave Grohl said that he “had to take a cinematic approach.”

“We really had to step up what we do. The music is a progression or an evolution for sure, but it’s a Foo Fighters record.”

Grohl also said that fans will hear the distinct Foo Fighters sound, but they will also be surprised, as they did things that they haven’t done before.

Aside from the new album, Grohl has also been busy with the documentary series entitled Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, which he directed himself. The series will debut on October 17 on HBO.

Billboard reports that the series will have eight episodes, with each episode taking place at a different landmark in music. The documentary will show the culture and history that defines each city’s musical identity.

While traveling through the different cities, Grohl took time to interview some musicians. He used the knowledge he gathered as inspiration for writing and recording an original song, which fans can hear when their latest album hits stores.

“We traveled to each place and spent a week there. We’d get there, start recording and I would just run around town filming and interviewing as many people as I can. I did over 100 interviews. At the end of the week, I’d take all of my transcripts, put them on the floor, sit there with a pen and my journal and I reduce all of these stories into a song.”

Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways will feature artists such as Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers, Chuck D from Public Enemy, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, and Eagles’ Joe Walsh. Sonic Highways is Grohl’s second documentary film after his 2013 documentary entitled Sound City.

Foo Fighters will be busy performing until the end of this year. Their London gig sold out in just a few hours and they will also be performing at the closing concert for the Invictus Games. The band will be performing in Las Vegas in October, and in South Africa in December.
