Demi Lovato Opens Up About Her ‘Wave Of Entitlement’

Demi Lovato apparently doesn’t have an issue discussing her struggle with addiction.

The “Neon Lights” singer has given many candid interviews in hopes that others will learn from her mistakes. Instead of keeping these dark secrets locked in a closet, Demi made the bold decision to share these experiences with the world.

Lovato shared even more intimate details about her drug dependency during a recent chat with You magazine. Although the singer could easily pass the proverbial buck and point the finger of blame on a number of different factors, Demi understands that she’s solely responsible for the problems that arose during the early years of her career.

The former Sonny with a Chance star told the publication:

“Everything skyrocketed, which was awesome, but the negative side was that I thought, “Right, I am working like an adult so I should be able to party like an adult. I was making a bunch of money and when my parents would get on me for drinking and staying out, I would say, ‘I pay the bills, so what are you going to do?’ I was riding this wave of entitlement and superiority and they were in an impossible position because there’s no manual that explains how to deal with the sort of teenager I was.”

Although Demi Lovato has maintained her sobriety for three years, the singer understands that she’ll always struggle to control these impulses. Lovato told the folks over at You that she approaches everything “one day at a time.”

She continued:

“If I think that I am never going to be able to have a glass of wine with dinner, I get anxious. And sometimes I do feel like I want to go to a bar and have some shots, but I know where I will be in six weeks or six months’ time if I do. We are a different breed, we alcoholics, but it is just like having any other disease – you have to learn to live with it.”

It’s obvious that Lovato has her head in the right place these days. The Inquisitr previously reported that Demi teamed up with friend and fellow musician Nick Jonas for a tune on his upcoming solo album. The record serves as Jonas’ first musical endeavor since he and his brothers decided to go their separate ways.

Nick explained to MTV News:

“She and I recorded a song that, um, I think is beautiful. It’s not necessarily a love song. It’s so easy to do a duet that’s a love song because our relationship isn’t really that. But there is love there for a friend, you know, and it’s beautiful to just talk about. Any kind of relationship can hit a point where if it’s not stable, it’s not secure then it’s like an avalanche crashing down and that’s what that song is about. Her voice is amazing on it and, um, it feels good. I’m excited for people to hear it.”
