Pharrell Williams Gives Thumbs Up To ’80-Odd Years Of Happy’ [Video]

Just when you couldn’t stand to see another video of people dancing to Pharrell Willams’ triple platinum hit, ‘Happy,’ this group of senior citizens and the staff at the Diana Isaac Retirement Village in Christchurch, New Zealand decided to treat us to one of the best ones yet – ’80-Odd Years of Happy’.

These seniors are inspiring to us all. Forget sitting around playing bingo and checkers; the retirement village’s version of Williams song features the best dance moves of more than 60 of its residents and staff. No matter how sick you might be of the song, you can’t help but smile while watching a debonair gentleman in bow tie and hat charming the ladies, a pool full of grannies dancing, and a choir clapping along to the catchy tune.

Parrrell apparently loved the video, and it gave his stamp of approval in a tweet yesterday, saying “Wow! 80-Odd Years of Happy!”

You can watch it here.

Williams’ tweet was shared by fans, and within hours, ’80-Odd Years Of Happy’ went viral for a second time. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the You Tube video received more than 150,000 hits since Pharrell’s tweet on Thursday, bringing it up to more than 1.7 million views.

Alister Leckie, the dapper, bow tie wearing star of the video, received interview requests from around the world within hours after the tweet. Leckie, dubbed “Al Pharrell Williams” by his fans, reacted in true star fashion, making the media wait until he concluded a promised performance at his grandson’s kindergarten disco.

“Heavens above,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald, “you get on and have as much fun as you can. It was a great opportunity. I’m not sure why I was chosen, but I loved giving it a go.”

People Magazine knows why he was chosen, commenting in on his dapper attire in the video, “They have style too! Pharrell’s signature bow tie and hat may look even better on this video’s leading man.”

Leckie enjoyed the experience and did not think twice about doing it. He admits he doesn’t quite have Pharrell Williams’ energy though, adding, “I was a bit jiggered by the end of it though.”

The video was a big hit in New Zealand, with the red-carpet treatment and more than 400 people showing up for it’s premier at the retirement village.

Come on, admit it. That video made you happy.
