Wiz Khalifa Discusses The Difference Between ’28 Grams’ And ‘Blacc Hollywood’

Wiz Khalifa has a new album set for release in the very near future. To make sure those songs end up on your playlist, the rapper is doing his part to spread the good word.

In case you missed it, Khalifa recently dropped the mixtape 28 Grams on the masses. Instead of charging folks for the tunes, he decided to give it away for free. Although the aforementioned collection of tunes and his new record Blacc Hollywood arrived in 2014, the rapper believes they’re entirely different musical beasts.

During his interview with the Post-Gazette, Wiz Khalifa discussed the difference between assembling a mixtape and recording an album. While you you’d think the processes had a lot in common, apparently the rapper approached each one in a unique fashion.

Khalifa told the publication:

“Making the mixtapes is a lot more on the spot and just breezy because all of those songs are songs that I’ve made in the month leading up to the release of that, and then making the album. Those songs come from a year ago, and some of them are patched together at the end of the process, and there’s so much going back to the table and editing and re-editing that happens with the album because of how big and important it is and the effect that it’s supposed to have on so many people. So you put the time and energy there.”

The rapper continued:

“But the mixtape is just supposed to be fun, and it’s supposed to be a complete expression of where the artist is at in their career right then and there, so that’s what I accomplish with my mixtapes, and with my albums I like to take my time.”

Wiz Khalifa is definitely pulling out all the stops when it comes to promoting Blacc Hollywood. When he finally drops the music video for “Stayin’ Out All Night,” fans can expect a wholly original interactive experience.

Khalifa told HotNewHipHop:

“So basically, you’re gonna be able to do so much different shit inside of this video to make it your own video, it’s crazy. So that’s gonna be the next single and that’s gonna be the next wave that’s gonna catch people off guard. They’re gonna have fun with that and they’re gonna be like ‘Wow, you know, Wiz did that and look at the boys.'”

Wiz Khalifa plans to release Blacc Hollywood on August 19.
