Miami Cop Lost Job Over Penis Cream Laced With Cocaine, Gets Job Back Because He Didn’t Know

A Miami Beach cop lost his job last year after testing positive for cocaine, a drug he swore he never used. But this week he got his position as a homicide detective back because he explained that the cocaine was contained in a cream rubbed onto his penis by his girlfriend to “assist my sexual performance.”

An embarrassed Detective Reinaldo Casas told an arbitrator that he had no idea the cream contained cocaine. The arbitrator bought his excuse, saying in his report, “[T]here is no evidence in the record to show that [Casas] was aware the cream contained a controlled substance.”

Casas was fired in February of 2013 after a random drug test that January turned up cocaine in his system, a result that Casas said astonished him because, he protested, he had never used the powerful drug.

“Having never knowingly used cocaine, I was baffled, perplexed and confused,” Casas said in his grievance over the firing, which led to the arbitration hearing. “Over time, heavy deliberation and the insight of others, I was able to pinpoint the cause.”

That cause, he said, was a cream given to him in unmarked jars by a friend named Idilio Godinez, “with the advice that it would help him in his sexual liaisons,” the arbitrator recounted. But the apparently homemade penis cream, purported to enhance male erections, gave no indication that its active ingredient was cocaine and Godinez never told his pal about the secret ingredient, either.

According to testimony by Casas, Godinez obtained the cocaine-laced penis cream from “an old Cuban guy.” Godinez told Casas that he had no idea what was in the seemingly magic erection-producing cream, but he knew from first-hand experience that the stuff got results.

Godinez gifted Casas with the penis cream, which actually was more like a gel in the mode of Vaseline, in trade for a set of political campaign signs.

Casas told the arbitrator that in what he called “an embarrassing hearing” leading up to his firing, at which the police commissioner was present, he told the story of how the application of the cream to his penis by his girlfriend caused cocaine to get into his system, but he said the police department ignored his pleas, even though an internal affairs investigation confirmed the penis cream tale.

But the city summarily fired him anyway, he said.

The city later called the story told by Casas “incredible.” But in finding it, in fact, credible, the arbitrator ordered the Miami Beach Police to hire Casas back, with full back pay. His salary is listed at $74,745 per year.

With the cocaine allegations behind him, Casas “is looking forward to resuming his distinguished law-enforcement career,” his lawyer said.
