Axe Wrecks Car Windshield On Highway Nearly Executing Shocked Couple

An axe crashed through a car windshield on a highway, but no one was killed. In a miraculous miss, a couple from Rhode Island narrowly avoided death when the unsecured axe fell from the back of a moving truck on the highway and smashed through their car windshield. The passenger barely avoided being skewered by the blade of the axe, but was reportedly shaken up by the incident.

The freak accident took place on July 30, 2014 as a man and his wife traveled southbound on Interstate 95 in Topsfield. A landscaper from Peabody was driving a dump truck on the same road unaware that an axe was perched precariously in the back of his vehicle. The landscaper simply forgot that it was there, according to police.

The couple was driving a Lexus SUV directly behind the dump truck on the highway just prior to the “ax-cident,” according to MyFOXBoston. It all happened so fast that they didn’t even see it coming.

At 11 in the morning, the destinies of the two people in the car and the single landscaper in his truck collided in a shocking way that could have proved fatal but didn’t when the axe “bounced” off the dump truck and crash landed on the car’s windshield, reported MSN.

The potentially deadly sharp-edged tool easily broke through the thin layer of safety glass, coming to rest on the car’s dashboard. It could have been much worse. Police said the driver’s observance of the 65 MPH speed limit may be credited for the passenger’s survival, and the axe entered the car windshield at eye level. It came to rest just inches from the startled woman.

Tragic fatal accidents do happen, and the Rhode Island couple is lucky to be alive. As reported by The Inquisitr, the victims of another bizarre accident were not so fortunate. A man and his daughter who were enjoying the beach earlier this week were struck by a falling plane. The man died at the scene while his daughter was transported to a hospital, where she also died.

Massachusetts State Police have declined to identify the motorists involved in the bizarre axe incident. They cited the driver of the dump truck for failure to secure the axe, leading to it crashing into the car windshield. The truck driver must pay a $200 fine for the offense, but he did get his axe back.
