Man Who Filmed Female Colleagues In Bathroom With Hidden iPod Pleads Guilty

A man from Southwark in south London has been given a six month suspended sentence, a year-long supervision order, and been placed on the sex offender’s register, for filming his female colleagues in the bathroom with a hidden iPod.

Robert Kelly, a publishing manager, also pleaded guilty to five other voyeurism offences after he was caught when a plumber discovered the hidden iPod nano under the cistern in the women’s toilet at his place of work during routine maintenance.

Following a police investigation, it was found that the offending iPod belonged to Kelly after an examination of his personal computer revealed folders filled with video footage of woman using the bathroom. After his arrest, he claimed that had installed the iPod in order to catch someone whom he said defecated on the bathroom floor.

After initially pleading not guilty and sticking to his “do-do” story, Kelly later changed his mind and admitted his guilt at the Woolwich Crown Court last Friday.

DC Sarah Naisbitt, who investigated the case, told reporters:

“This was a complex investigation that involved detailed examination and evaluation of computer files, where crucial evidence was secured. I would like to thank all witnesses in this investigation, Kelly violated these women in their place of work where they felt they were secure and had no idea that images of such a discreet nature would be taken of them in this way. I hope that they can take some consolation that he admitted the offence and as a result will have to sign on to the sex offenders register for a number of years. This type of intrusion is not acceptable and the Metropolitan Police will support all victims and pursue all suspects.”

The punishment Kelly received was relatively minor, and if he stays out of trouble for the next year, he will be a free man to all intents and purposes.

Nevertheless, being on the sex offender’s register in the U.K. is not a simple matter as the public can see an open list of offenders via the internet.
