TD Bank Thanks You: Turns ATMs Into “Automated Thanking Machines” [Get The Tissues]

Wait. Why doesn’t my bank do things like this?

Recently, TD Bank, which is headquartered in Canada, gave more than 30,000 thank you gifts away to their customers as part of their initiative to give back and show their appreciation.

In several of the bank’s branch locations across Canada, loyal bank customers, were given some very special surprises. Chris Stamper, SVP Corporate Marketing atTD Bank Group, told BuzzFeed:

Our local branch employees know their customers really well and often have close relationships with them. Some have been through tough times and some are just wonderfully kind and caring people.

A mother of two was awarded tickets to take her children to Disney Land and two piggy banks, each with a $1,000 check to put into a savings account. Another mom whose daughter is suffering from cancer and is living all the way in Trinidad, received round trip tickets to visit her sick daughter.

A spokesperson for TD Banks was quoted as saying the following about these very personalized gifts:

Over a dozen customers across Canada received a special customer thanking experience at their local branch through the Automated Thanking Machine (TM), such as trips, experiences.

But not just long-time customers were eligible for special gifts during the “TD Thanks You” initiative, which has now blown up Twitter with the hastag ‘#TDThanksYou. Every single customer across all 1,100 TD Canada locations received a green envelope with cash inside it, according to Forbes. In total, nearly 30,000 customers received a gift from TD Banks.

The video of TD Bank’s customer appreciation initiative has not only taken over its own Twitter hastag, it has also gone viral on YouTube, receiving more than 2.5 million hits since it was uploaded on July 24th. Similarly, the video was shared on Facebook more than 8,000 times and received more than 3,000 comments as of the time of this report. Some customers took to their social media accounts to express their sincere gratitude for the bank’s initiative and the ‘likes’ to the bank’s public Facebook profile have sky-rocketed over the past week.

Now that I’m thinking about it, there are some banks in the United States that could do well to follow TD’s example. Am I right? Tell me what you think the comments section below this post.
