Games With Gold Vs. PlayStation Plus For August 2014

The Games With Gold Vs. PlayStation Plus for August 2014 comparison is here. Once again, we take a look at what Microsoft and Sony have to offer their loyal subscribers for this month.

First up is Microsoft in our Games with Gold Vs. PlayStation Plus comparison for August. On July 28, Major Nelsonposted the list of the offerings for August 2014. For Xbox One Gold subscribers, Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero will be replacing the July games Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. If you have not downloaded those two game yet, now would be an excellent time to do so.

Xbox 360 Gold subscribers will be treated to a staggered release of the Xbox Live Arcade title Motocross Madness for the first half of August. The second half of August will see arguably the biggest release, and most recent, for the Games With Gold program, Dishonored.

For PlayStation Plus subscribers, the PlayStation Blog officially announced the offerings for the month. The PlayStation 4 will see the release of Road Not Taken, a roguelike puzzle game with a survival theme and Fez which will also feature cross-buy for the PS3 and PS Vita.

The PlayStation 3 will see Crysis 3 and Proteus, with Proteus offering cross-buy with the PS Vita as well. PS Vita owners are being offered a unique game title Metrico which is a living world filled with info graphics (bar graphs, pie charts, etc) that react to your movement which sounds like a living nightmare for office workers. Dragon’s Crown will be the arguably stronger offering for the PS Vita with developer Vanillaware’s pedigree of Odin Sphere and Muramasa. We spoke to Atlus PR and confirmed that the title will also be available for PlayStation 3 owners.

The principles of Games with Gold Vs. PlayStation Plus remain unchanged as we await to see what Phil Spencer will do with the Xbox Games with Gold program. Gold subscribers who download these games will retain ownership of these games, even if their Gold subscription lapses. PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to play and download the PS Plus games as long as their subscription is active. Once it lapses, the games become inactive and disappear from the download queue but return upon renewing the PlayStation Plus subscription.
