Hilary Duff: ‘Chasing The Sun’ Video Surpasses 4 Million Views

Hilary Duff’s comeback is apparently in full swing.

Although the former Lizzie McGuire star bailed on her music career several years ago, this isn’t stopping Duff from capturing the world’s undivided attention with her new single “Chasing the Sun.” In fact, the tune’s official music video — which finds Hilary rocking a black bikini while frolicking on the beach with a shirtless hunk — has amassed an impressive four million views since Monday, June 28.

The video, which finds Hilary Duff adopting a pop-rock sound à la Sheryl Crow, follows the singer’s increasingly bizarre beach-oriented hallucinations as she tries to complete a day of work at an office. At one point during these sandy visions, Duff mistakes a hamster in a plastic globe for a volleyball. If that’s not weird enough for you, then behold the moment when one of Hilary’s co-workers takes advantage of her while she’s napping on her lunch break. Gross and uncomfortable, but mostly gross.

Although Duff is hoping to make a big splash (ahem) with the beach-friendly single, the folks over at Music Times seem to think the singer is stuck in the past. If she’s sincerely hoping to cut a sunny swath though an industry dominated by the likes of Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, then Duff may need to revamp her style just a tad.

“Though it’s been 10 years since Duff was the teenage Lizzie McGuire on our TV screens and she’s now a 26-year-old woman, this song comes straight out of the teenage music songwriting storybook. It’s generic, happy and really innocent pop. It’s not the sort of declarative, bold single that says ‘I’m back and relevant!’ Instead, it sort of falls very much in the middle range of mid-2000s pop. This is an album track or B-side, not a major comeback single. And, Duff is expecting to move forward in her career, she’s going to have to stop looking back and make music with a little more edge.”

Ouch. At the end of the day, all that matters is what Hilary Duff fans think of the new tune. Check out some Twitter reactions to “Chasing the Sun” below.
