Bates Motel Fans Are In For A Treat At SDCC 2014

Season 3 of Bates Motel isn’t slated to air until early 2015, but attendees at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con have a variety of opportunities to see what’s in store for everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family. A&E’s award-winning contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho will be hosting a panel, private party, and custom photo opp.

This year marks the second appearance of Bates Motel at SDCC. Bate’s Motel cast members making appearances this year include Vera Farmiga (Norma Louise Bates), Freddie Highmore (Norman Bates), Olivia Cooke (Emma Decody), and Nestor Carbonell (Sheriff Alex Romero). They are accompanying executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin for a panel discussion on Friday, July 25, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in Room 6A.

A few select Bates Motel fans who were lucky enough to score invitations to the exclusive Friday night party will have a chance to meet their favorite actors one-on-one at the Playboy and A&E Bates Motel party that runs from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am. The event is being held at Seventh Avenue, between Island and Market Street.

Next to the chance to meet their favorite celebrities, photo ops are the biggest draw for SDCC fans. Norman Bates’s basement taxidermy workshop has been meticulously created on the SDCC floor, complete with props replicating those seen on the TV series. The display is open throughout SDCC 2014. Visitors to Booth #4016/4018 can pose for a custom GIF with one of Norman’s taxidermy birds, creating a personalized SDCC souvenir to show off on all their social networking profiles.

Before they return home, SDCC attendees can pick up an exclusive temporary tattoo designed by noted tattoo artist Chris 51, the owner of Area 51 Tattoo in Springfield, Oregon. The tattoo features an image of the iconic Bates Motel and the phrase “Home Sweet Home” written on a blood stained banner. A&E is distributing the tattoos as a cross promotional effort to drum up interest in Epic Ink‘s debut on August 20. This new docu-series will feature the adventures of Chris 51 and his staff, who say they’ll happily give fans a permanent version of the SDCC Bates Motel tattoo if they come in for a visit.

Filming for Season 3 of Bates Motel begins in October, with fan favorite Nicola Peltz (Bradley Martin) reprising her role as Norman’s classmate and former love interest. It’s not yet clear how writers plan to reintroduce her character, however. Norman and Dylan helped her escape from town in Season 2 of Bates Motel after she killed Gil and sparked a deadly drug war between the town’s two most powerful families.
