Jake Gyllenhaal Looks A Little Gaunt In First ‘Nightcrawler’ Trailer [Video]


Jake Gyllenhaal is definitely looking a little thinner these days. The actor reportedly dropped around a considerable amount of weight to portray crime journalist Lou Bloom the upcoming drama Nightcrawler. The film arrives later this year.

Written and directed by by Dan Gilroy, the guy responsible for penning Real Steel and The Bourne Legacy, the film follows the adventures of a freelance writer who gets wrapped up in the Los Angeles underworld. It doesn’t take long for our hero to stumble across a series of circumstances that make him question his own morals and convictions.

“Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou thrives. In the breakneck, ceaseless search for footage, he becomes the star of his own story.”

According to CBS News, Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly shed around 20 pounds to prepare for his role in Gilroy’s directorial debut. It definitely shows in the trailer. In addition to Gyllenhaal, the flick also stars Rene Russo and Bill Paxton. Curious parties can check out the movie when it hits the big screen in the U.S. on October 17.

WFTV reports that Open Road Films is using a slightly different technique to spread the good word about Jake Gyllenhaal’s latest cinematic endeavor. Not only is the distributor using traditional methods such as posters and trailers, they’re also trying something a bit more viral in nature. Eagle-eyed Craigslist users recently stumbled across a listing by Louis Bloom, which is Jake’s character in Nightcrawler.

The post reads:

“Hard Worker Seeks Employment. My name is Louis Bloom. I’m looking for full-time employment. No job too big or too small. I have my own car and phone. Persistent, punctual, polite and hardworking. Will work nights.”
