James Rodriguez Sells 50,000 Jerseys On First Day At Real Madrid

James Rodriguez has barely been at Real Madrid, but he is already creating huge demand for his jerseys. The World Cup sensation from Colombia, was officially introduced at the Bernabeu on Tuesday afternoon and managed to sell 50,000 of his #10 jerseys in less than 24 hours.

Prior to the official announcement there was rampant speculation that the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner was coming to join his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. On Tuesday, all that ended, when the world was informed that Real Madrid had agreed to a six-year, $108 million deal for James, bringing him to Spain from the AS Monaco.

To say that fans are excited would be an understatement and the proof is in the pudding, as they say. The best sign that fans are excited to have the very talented 23-year-old join Los Blancos, is the extremely high demand for the brand new #10 jersey.

According to some media reports, Real Madrid sold 500 James shirts within an hour and 50,000 by the end of the day. Many are joking that the successful shirts sale are helping the Spanish club pay for the steep transfer fee.

Following an exciting day full of activities for the newest Blanco, James Rodriguez sat down with Real Madrid TV and answered some questions:

“I am ambitious, I have always liked challenges and I am here to help and win more trophies.”

“I always wanted to join this club and I hope to be happy here for a long time to come and to help the club win a lot more titles.”

James made his World Cup debut in Brazil and led Colombia to its first quarterfinals in their history, with six-goals, earning him the Golden Boot award. FIFA also selected his goal against Uruguay — in the round of 16 — as the best goal of the tournament. James commented about the experience:

“Last month was incredible. I always wanted to come here and Madrid have shown an interest in me and have done everything so that I could be here. I am delighted because it is something I have always longed and wished for.”

When asked about the activities surrounding his presentation at the Bernabeu, where thousands came to meet him, James commented:

“It was very special. It is a day I will never forget. I will always hold onto that memory fondly and I hope I can give Real Madrid plenty to be happy about.”

“I felt really happy because it is something I have always dreamed about. Ever since I was a boy I always wanted to be in this great stadium, an historic stadium. It was great and I hope that I play lots of matches here.”

James Rodriguez will wear the #10 jersey and join one of the deadliest offenses in all of football with Cristiano Ronaldo (7), newly signed Toni Kroos (8), Karim Benzema (9), and Gareth Bale (11).
