‘Star Wars Rebels’ Trailer: Is This The Series You’re Looking For? [Video]

An extended Star Wars Rebels trailer has dropped, and despite the animation level, the Force appears to be strong with this one.

Star power has really given this series an edge in acting quality. Freddie Prinze Jr. plays Kanan Jarrus, a member of the new rebel alliance forming in response to Emperor Palpatine’s attempted eradication of the Jedi Order and its allies (Order 66). He escaped and keeps his light saber locked up as he travels with only a blaster. Alongside him, but still not taking sides, is the rogue Ezra Bridger, a teenage con artist whose criminal tendencies hold sway over his loyalties, who is unaware that he can use the Force. With the occasional help of Obi Wan Kenobi, they lead the crew of the Ghost in a battle against the Empire and Darth Vader’s Sith helper, the Inquisitor.

The Star Wars Rebels extended trailer begins as Obi Wan reports to a new recruit via hologram that the Jedi and the Republic have fallen. The new guy sees an Imperial battleship fly overhead before a montage of the workings of the Empire flow along.

The new recruit is Ezra, and he appears to have the Force on his side as he pilots a speeder head-on through traffic, much like Anakin did in his early years, and gets Kanan Jarrus’ attention. They catch him and he ends up being the savior of the expedition as Kanan explains to the pilot what happened.

It appears that Kanan will reveal himself to be a Jedi as the band of rebels take on an Empire army. He assembles and ignites a light saber in full view of the enemy and waves it in true warrior fashion. The show will make some obvious references to the films, casually throwing the words “a new hope” into conversation among the rebels.

The series takes place between episodes three and four, the reign of Darth Vader and the birth of the Rebellion, so we can probably expect a few familiar cameos alongside Obi Wan and Lando Calrissian.
