Melissa Gilbert Files For Divorce, Sister Sara Also Splits From Partner

Although they physically separated in January, Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert has formally filed for divorce from her husband of 16 years, Bruce Boxleitner.

Gilbert claimed grounds of “irreconcilable differences” when filing the divorce petition on Monday in Los Angeles. The couple have one son together, who is 15, and jointly raised two sons from a previous relationship of Boxleitner’s and one son from a former relationship of Gilbert’s. The three sons the couple were parents to previous to their marriage are adults, and Gilbert is seeking joint custody of their teen as well as spousal support.

The filing from Gilbert comes in the same week her sister, former Roseanne star Sara Gilbert, announced the end of her long-term relationship as well. The 36-year-old host of The Talk and her longtime girlfriend, 44-year-old Glee writer Allison Adler have split after ten years together. The younger Gilbert- Melissa is 47- shares custody of two children with Adler. Their 6-year-old son Levi was born to Adler, and 4-year-old daughter Sawyer was born to Gilbert. The two will share custody of the tots.

Melissa Gilbert has not commented publicly on her divorce, and reps for Gilbert and Adler say the relationship dissolution was “completely amicable.”
