New ‘Hunger Games’ Living Portraits Feature Peeta and Johanna

In preparation for the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay in November, Lionsgate films has released a couple of disturbingly beautiful “living portraits” of Peeta Mellark and Johanna Mason, two characters from the Hunger Games films.

At the end of the last Hunger Games film, Catching Fire, (spoiler alert) Peeta and Johanna had been kidnapped by the villainous President Snow and brought to the Capitol. To chill and infuriate Hunger Games fans everywhere, the filmmakers have spread the moving images across the web, depicting the Hunger Games heroes as prized possessions.

As reported by CelebBuzz.com, the images show both Peeta and Johanna dressed all in white, wearing extremely lavish garments. The Hunger Games characters rotate slowly while the Capitol’s grand and threatening anthem plays. Both have expressions of weary resilience on their faces–particularly Johanna, who seems absolutely livid to be paraded around in the Capitol’s garish getup.

You can see the Hunger Games living portraits below.

Peeta is played by heartthrob Josh Hutcherson in the Hunger Games films. Johanna is played by Jena Malone.

A promotional website has been put together by the filmmakers of The Hunger Games designed as a Capitol fashion site, showing off the latest clothing trends. There are descriptions of the clothing worn by the Hunger Games characters on the site that read:

“Peeta stands tall and true in his Capitol Citizen Living Portrait, his matte leather Unconditional ensemble showcasing a stone-like texture and channeling the victor’s quiet strength, completed by shirt and shoes courtesy of Maison Martin Margiela. The paper collar piece, designed by David Mason, mirrors the sculptural elements in Johanna’s dress and gives a stern ambiance to the baker’s son.”

According to the New York Daily News, the Hunger Games portraits are meant to show that the country of Panem (formally the USA) is united under the leadership of President Snow. The first official trailer for TheHunger Games: Mockingjay is set to premiere at San Diego Comic-Con this Friday. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Donald Sutherland, and Liam Hemsworth, will be in theaters November 21, according to a previous Inquisitr article.

Previously, the Hunger Games filmmakers released a series of video addresses from President Snow, pretending the speech has come directly from the dystopic nation of Panem. You can watch them both below:

The Hunger Games films are based on the Hunger Games series of young adult novels written by Suzanne Collins. You can buy the whole Hunger Games trilogy at Amazon. The Inquisitr reported previously that the people behind The Hunger Games films have been using viral marketing with remarkable success to promote the movies. Read more here.
