‘The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies’, New Photo Released

This year we will see the final installment of Peter Jackson’s trilogy, The Hobbit, with its new title, The Battle of the Five Armies. A new image has been released showing two of the main protagonists in the saga, Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Luke Evans (Bard the Bowman).

Jackson wrapped up production on his epic films months ago, and now, finally, we get to catch a glimpse of how our friends from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug are faring, after they unleash the ruthless beast, Smaug the Dragon (voiced and motion captured by Benedict Cumberbatch).

The new image shows a moment in which Gandalf and Bard look at something far in the horizon. The expression on their faces could lead to many conclusions, but the most obvious one is that they are terrified about Smaug descending once again upon the residents of Lake Town.

Even though The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies comes to theaters on December 17, we can expect some news from Peter Jackson and cast members who will be present at San Diego Comic Con starting next week. Jackson is uber generous with fans and always has something up his sleeve for events such as this. The director also promised a teaser trailer sometime soon.

Jackson has been uncharacteristically quiet in recent months, only commenting on the decision to change the title from The Hobbit: Here And Back Again to the more relevant The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The switch was not welcomed by all fans, who claim the story is about Bibo (Martin Freeman) and his adventure in joining the company of dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage).

In the last installment, we can expect things to turn even darker than they were in the second part, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, which recounts the way the dwarves, against all odds, finally reach their long-lost home, Erebor. However, in doing so, they awaken the feared beast, Smaug, who has been dormant for decades, but has not changed in his wish to destroy whoever threatens him.

Tensions are high as family ties suffer because of Thorin’s blind ambition to take his land back. He becomes unreasonable and puts his friends, along with the residents of Lake-Town, at risk of being destroyed by Smaug.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will recount the portion of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel in which an epic battle is waged between the Goblins and the Wargs, against the Men of Dale, Elves, Dwarves, Eagles, and a Shape-shifter in the Lonely Mountain. To see who comes out victorious, you will have to wait until the movie opens in theaters in December.
