Select Walt Disney Parks Will Offer Discounts To U.S. Military Servicemen, But There Are Multiple Weird Conditions

Walt Disney Parks are currently teeming with vacationers. Hence it seems a very apt decision by the entertainment company to offer discounts to eligible U.S. Military service personnel. Announced today, these special theme-park tickets and room rates will be valid into fall 2015.

Reported by the Disney Blog, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California would offer discounts to U.S. Military service personnel who qualify for the privilege. Disney’s Military Offers have been an ongoing promotion, with special offers every year since 2009 and options for both domestic Disney Parks. These promotions are sometime informally called Disney’s U.S. Military Salute or Disney’s U.S. Armed Forces Salute and are meant to pay tribute to the hardworking men and women in the armed and defense forces of the United States.

At Walt Disney World, Disney’s Military Offer for tickets runs between Aug. 25, 2014 and Sept. 30, 2015 at Walt Disney World Resort. Though eligible active and retired U.S. Service Members or their spouses may purchase Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets, there are multiple conditions and corresponding 3 options from which the personnel have to choose, reported Examiner.

The first one is the Park Hopper Option, which allows access to more than one park per day. It costs $177 each, plus tax. The second option is the Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets with Water Park Fun and More Option. This option also opens up access to Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon among other resort activities. Interestingly, this option costs the same as the Park Hopper Option.

However trumpeting these two options is the ‘Combo’ which simply combines the two options and costs only $30 more at $207, plus tax. There is a similar (and low cost) 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets Option for Disneyland Resort which rings it at $132 each.

Though these do sound great, Walt Disney has put in a lot of conditions that might put a dampener on the plans of these men and women in uniform. Firstly, these tickets can only be used from Sept. 28, 2014 through Oct. 3, 2015. However, there are blackout periods during which these tickets aren’t valid. Walt Disney Corporation has announced that Dec. 22, 204 through Jan. 2, 2015 and March 29 through April 9 2015 are the blackout periods.

Apart from these, Walt Disney will allow only one spouse access to these privileges, not both. Additionally, no more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased and, if applicable, active by eligible Service Member or spouse.

Walt Disney Parks have been embroiled in some serious cases lately, some of which involved child-sex and marginalizing autistic children. Though these offers are a treat to the military personnel, shouldn’t they have been kept really simple for the men and women who keep the country safe from threats, both, foreign and domestic?
