Actor Robert Downey Jr. Tops Forbes List Despite His Light Schedule

Who else could make serious bank without lifting a finger? Well, it’s none other than Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr. The actor has once again topped Forbes list as the highest earning actor of the year for the second time in a row.

According to Forbes the actor made a total of $75 million between June 2013 and June 2014, but if you look at his current resume it’s obvious to see that Downey Jr. wasn’t exactly hard at work. So if you’re following correctly it means that Robert Downey Jr. despite not having worked in a huge blockbuster this year is still the top earner of the year. Not only that but it’s the same amount of money he made the year prior when he actually had Iron Man 3 out.

It should be mentioned that Downey Jr. did help his friend Jon Favreau out by stealing a small scene in his independent film Chef. Additionally he appeared in a small cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy, which has yet to hit theaters, but besides that the actor didn’t really do much on the big screen.

So how did he make all that money? Well, the Iron Man franchise is a huge box office juggernaut. Amazingly, the $75 million is still being carried over from Iron Man 3. That’s right, Robert Downey Jr. is making a boat load of money for a film he did in 2013.

It all has to do with the backend Downey Jr. is making on the film. According to his contract it means he’s paid a share of what the film makes in the box office plus what he’s paid to star in the film. If you weren’t counting, Iron Man 3 along made $1.2 billion at the box office.

In addition to Robert Downey Jr. making the list, Dwayne Johnson came in at number 2 with $52 million from Pain & Gain and Fast & Furious 6, in addition to what he was paid for Hercules, which is coming out on July 25.

Bradley Cooper placed at number 3 on the list with $46 million, Leonardo DiCaprio at $39 million, another Marvel star Chris Hemsworth with $37 million, followed by Liam Neeson with $36 million, Ben Affleck with $35 million, Christian Bale with $35 million, Will Smith with $32 million, and last but not least Mark Wahlberg with $32 million.

As for other Robert Downey Jr. news he’s currently expecting his second child, a daughter, with wife Susan Downey. The two already have a son, Exton, who was born in 2012.
