Miracle Or Sheer Co-incidence? Grandmother, Daughter, And Granddaughter Share The Same Birthday!

New Mexico residents Lorraine Lindbloom and her mother Joanne Luna had over the years shared a wonderful thing. The mother-daughter duo were born on the same day of the month and shared their birthday on July 2. Mere coincidence? Perhaps. But when the family added yet another member two weeks ago, they began to wonder if there is more to it than sheer coincidence. Lorraine gave birth to a baby girl on the same day – July 2 as well!

According to the Albuquerque Journal, 29-year-old Lorraine Lindbloom who was nine months, pregnant woke up to contractions at around 3 am on the morning of her birthday. She and her husband, however, had the time to drop her other children at Joanne’s place before driving away to a hospital in Albuquerque – an hour away. Lorraine was originally due on July 19, so the possibility of her baby sharing her birthday with her mom and grandmother was not given much credence. It was on the way to the hospital that it struck Lorraine. She was about to give birth on her birthday – which was also going to be her daughter’s birthday! Lorraine tells ABC News:

“It hit me on the drive,” And she said, “Oh my gosh she’s going to have our birthdays.’

She also started crying at the thought of it. An emotional moment, for sure.

After reaching the hospital, she delivered a 7 pound 3 ounce baby at 10:37 am. Baby Gianna and her mother is in perfect health now.

As for Lorraine’s mother, she admits that she didn’t read much into the fact that she and her daughter shared the same birthday. However, the birth of her granddaughter seems to have her believe, too, that this is more than just sheer coincidence. Joanne also revealed that she had given birth to Lorraine 10 days before her due date – the day which also happened to be her birthday.

Joanne Luna later told ABC News, “I think it’s something cosmic.”

“I believe there is a reason for everything, I just don’t know what it is. We started thinking that maybe it was my mother communicating to us. I was very distraught when she died.”

Meanwhile, a mathematician at Stanford, Keith Devlin has said that the chances of a mother, daughter and granddaughter sharing a birthday is 1 in 130,000. He added that this is actually more probable than you winning a lottery jackpot – the estimates of which has been pegged at 1 in 100,000,000.

Lorraine has three other kids aged 11, seven, and two. The family, which until now celebrated Lorraine’s birthday during daytime and Joanne’s with a dinner, have decided that they would now celebrate Gianna’s birthday exclusively on July 2.
