The non-parents are all, “oh my God, what a horrible parent!” and the parents are like, “it only happened once or twice.”

People actually use wipes to wipe their babies bottoms after going to the washroom. These type of parents think it "cleans" their babies if they use wipes. This is completely stupid in every sense. If you have dog poo on your arm, would you wipe with baby wipes or what most non religious do and wipe with a dry paper towel? This is for you to ask yourself.
It is not proper for any parents to use wipes on a child not just because the toxic chemicals but because it's not clean at all. It is better to wash with water for both adults and babies alike rather then spread the fesses. It may not make sense to some who will disagree that washing is cleaner so please do not argue in order to lessen your humiliation.
Do what's best for your baby no matter how lazy you are to clean them properly.
