‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Casts ‘Doctor Who’ Alum

British actress Christina Chong has been cast to play an unspecified role in the upcoming seventh episode of the Star Wars franchise, Yahoo Movies reports, while Star Wars: Rebels has given voice to a villain who may play a part in the highly anticipated movie.

Chong will be familiar to science fiction fans, having played a minor role opposite Matt Smith’s eccentric eleventh Doctor. In the sixth series Doctor Who episode “A Good Man Goes To War,” Chong portrayed Lorna Bucket, a “Gamma Girl” who became a cleric after a run-in with the Doctor. It is not known what role Chong will play in Star Wars: Episode VII, however it is believed to be a minor part. The actress most recently appeared in Fox’s 24: Live Another Day.

While Chong is the first Doctor Who alum who has been rumored to be involved in the Star Wars franchise, she may not be the last, according to Metro. The paper reported last week that veteran Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat is rumored to be attached to the Star Wars universe, with speculation centering on a possible directorial role for Episode IX. No director has yet been announced for the ninth Star Wars feature, though Episode VIII director Rian Johnson has been tapped to write the installment.

Meanwhile, IGN reports that the upcoming CGI series Star Wars: Rebels has cast perennial villain Jason Issacs to voice the part of the Inquisitor, a Jedi hunter who will serve as the main antagonist for the series. A force-user who wields a red lightsaber, the Inquisitor is nevertheless not a Sith, according to Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo. “When the Inquisitor shows up it means something, it’s significant and a definite challenge to our heroes,” Hidalgo said, pointing out that the character is distinct from traditional cartoon villains.

While Star Wars: Rebels is set to take place between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope, fans have speculated that the Inquisitor could possibly play a role in Episode VII. As The Inquisitr has previously reported, possible leaked plot details point to the existence of “Jedi hunters” who are rumored to bear a resemblance to the Inquisitor.

Whether or not the Inquisitor is related to Star Wars: Episode VII, Christina Chong will join newcomers Oscar Issac, John Boyega, and Adam Driver in the next installment of the Star Wars saga when it hits theaters on Dec. 18th, 2015.
