Lena Dunham Looking For Talent To Perform At Her Book Tour

This is not your mother’s book tour. GIRLS creator Lena Dunham is about to drop her first memoir-self help book in a few months, and to promote it she’s going on a pretty different book tour.

How different, you ask? Well, Dunham is currently searching for local talent to perform at a few stops on her “Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned” book tour. Titled “Not That Kind of Tour,” Lena will take her three week tour and turn it into not only a signing but a Q&A and an “absurdly amazing” set of performers.

Entertainment Weekly reports that a lot of the stops will feature well known talents like filmmaker Miranda July, Apatow’s collaborator Amy Schumer, and more, but some stops on Lena Dunham’s book tour will feature local performers who will get their creativity out as Lena signs books.

Taking things into her own hands, just as she did with her HBO series, Dunham is giving performers the opportunity to be seen by posting an open call on her website. We would like to think that since the form is on her website that she will have at least some hand in picking out the talent featured on her book tour.

If you’re interested in possibly rubbing elbows with Lena Dunham at her book tour, you must send in a creative video that showcases your talent. The site gives some helpful examples of what that might qualify as — singing, comedy, musical spoons, etc. The act has to be 3 to 5 minutes long and the applicant must live in a 75 mile radius from where the event is taking place this way it’s a local act as advertised.

Over the last few days, Dunham has answered a few questions about her upcoming book tour.

For those wondering Lena plans to make stops in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Iowa City, Austin, Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and Brooklyn.

Her book “Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned” comes out on September 30.
