Calvin Harris Makes Fatboy Slim Feel Like A ‘Proud Uncle’

Calvin Harris is a pretty big fan of Fatboy Slim. In fact, you could go as far as to say that Harris drew inspiration from the acclaimed DJ’s work.

Although Calvin and his cohorts are enjoying all sorts of worldwide success these days, DJs weren’t always so well-respected within the music industry. According to the Daily Star, Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook) explained that people in his profession were once looked down upon by other musicians. Apparently the tables have turned.

While some DJs are no doubt harboring all sorts of jealousy about Calvin Harris’ recent stardom, Cook doesn’t seem too bothered by the success his peers have enjoyed. In fact, he seems quite proud of what Harris has accomplished these days.

Fatboy Slim told the publication:

“When I started doing this thirty years ago, a DJ’s status was just above that of a glass collector. People like Calvin Harris come up to me and say, ‘When I was a kid you were my inspiration,’ and that means a lot. I’m really chuffed that I’m still around and invited to the party. I kind of feel like a proud uncle when I see people like [Calvin Harris].”

It’s no secret that Calvin Harris and his cohorts are at the top of their respective games these days. The Inquisitr previously reported that Harris and fellow DJ Avicii were named one of Forbes magazine’s most powerful celebrities. The DJs found their names listed alongside such famous faces as Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, and Dr. Dre.

What’s more, Calvin Harris currently makes more money than any other EDM artist on the planet. Unfortunately for Fatboy Slim, he didn’t make the top 10. Out with the old and in with the new? That’s probably true, but don’t tell that to Norman Cook.

Here’s a breakdown of the richest DJs and their payouts.

1. Calvin Harris – $46 million
2. Tiësto – $32 million
3. David Guetta – $30 million
4. Swedish House Mafia – $25 million
5. Deadmau5 – $21 million
6. Avicii – $20 million
7. Afrojack – $18 million
8. Armin van Buuren – $17 million
9 & 10. Skrillex and Kaskade – $16 million
11. Steve Aoki – $14 million
12 & 13. DJ Pauly D and Diplo – $13 million

Of course, things aren’t all wine and roses for Calvin Harris. The DJ recently broke up with singer and Fifty Shades of Grey actress Rita Ora. The pair recently worked together on Ora’s single “I Will Never Let You Down,” a track that probably sounds pretty bittersweet right about now. Good think Calvin has all that money.
