The Wiper App Is The Ultimate Answer To All Privacy Paranoid Mobile Users

Ever since the usage of smartphones has gone-up, so have the cases of eavesdropping and digital espionage. Smartphones, despite being lauded as safe, are routinely tapped-into to steal logs, data, conversations and whatever other information that can be siphoned off. Thankfully a new app promises to do away with the root of all the danger; the data itself.

Newly introduced Wiper App does exactly what its name suggests. Interestingly it is an entire ecosystem of communication; calls, logs, file exchange system, all rolled into one. There are multiple platforms that offer communication. A few that pop-up are Wickr, Snapchat and Confide. But Wiper Messenger seems to act as a fusion of WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Wickr. The app prompts you to create your account, and then you are brought to a fairly simple interface with three tabs across the bottom: Chats, Contacts, and More.

The Chats Tab offers a very similar interface to WhatsApp. Using an all too similar dual check-mark messaging indicator, the Chat tab is easy to understand. One check indicates message delivery and two indicate that the message has been read. Within the chat screen you can also send pictures and video, reports The Next Web.

The Contacts tab is actually the standard feature that every smartphone has. Interestingly, the calls aren’t routed over GSM network, but over encrypted Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The last tab, called ‘More’ is actually a settings page that allows users to manage their profile and set a status message.

All these may sound pretty mundane and standard features, but the app promises to do what no other platforms can and that is, to securely erase whatever has transpired within its ecosystem as well on the servers of the company, reported Complex. The messaging app promises to provide you the much sought after privacy, by removing all your messages – texts, pictures or videos – after you send or receive them.

The Wiper App Offers A Simplistic Ultra-Secure Platform To Erase All Traces Of Conversation

If you are having a chat and want it removed, all you have to do is select “Wipe” from within a chat. The messages – whatever they might be – are also removed from Wiper’s servers. If you make a call using Wiper, your call logs are also deleted, leaving no trace of any interactions you may have had via the service.

The Calls & Text Are Routed Via Internet & Are Secured From Interception

Apart from these much-sought-after features, the app also offers a neat ‘hold’ music if you wish to place your current call on hold. Since the texts and calls are all routed via internet, they don’t consume any minutes nor do they incur any telephony charges.

The makers aren’t making any money from this platform, but have already secured $2.5 million funding and one of the co-founders recently made a cool $128 million exit from a previous venture. Given the app’s simplicity, the only thing that seems to stand in its way is the pace of adoption and the much-needed exposure.

Update: The makers are trying to infuse advanced security features for the iOS variant by linking the log-in to the Touch ID-based fingerprint authentication, apart from allowing users to securely read and erase messages from the notification itself.
