Kim Kardashian: Pregnant Women Should Never Leave The House
In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Kim Kardashian was quoted as saying several things but the thing that she got criticized about the most is her comment about pregnant women and fashion.
When asked her advice to pregnant women about how to dress their baby bump, Kim reportedly made the following statement:
“I recommend hiding for a good year and having no pregnancy style. That’s what I recommend. If you can do it, hide. Never leave the house.”
The interview was a joint venture in which all three Kardashian sisters spoke to Elle. Khloe, being the voice of reason, responded to Km’s remarks by saying:
“Okay, well that’s not practical. Give a different answer.”
To which Kim simply responded, “That’s really my recommendation. Wear a huge blanket.”
Of course, since that interview was published, Kim Kardashian has been subject to public criticism for her comments, but she insists that her comments were taken out of context. According to E! Online, Kim took to her Twitter feed to denounce the public backlash:
“I guess you can’t be sarcastic when doing interviews! I jokingly said pregnant woman should hide/stay in if they looked like I did lol. I said ask Kourt her tips bc she has the best preg style.”
It might make sense that Kim is sensitive about the topic of pregnancy style since she was scrutinized so heavily in the media during her own pregnancy for her weight and her style choices. During the Elle interview, Kim would also name A Pea in the Pod as one of her favorite maternity clothing retailers:
“I will say A Pea in the Pod saved my life—at the end of my pregnancy. I even wear their tanks now to work out in because they’re really long.”
Kourtney Kardashian, who is expecting her third child with longtime partner Scott Disick, had her own advice to give on pregnancy fashion:
“I’m not really into maternity clothes. This is the Kardashian collection, and it’s just a size bigger than I would normally get.”
Also during the interview, the three sisters discussed their recent charitable cause, Operation Shower which is a non-profit organization with the focus of providing basic essentials to pregnant wives of active military servicemen. Khloe Kardashian, who is the only Kardashian sister yet to have a child, told Elle the following about the Kardashian’s involvement with Operation Shower:
“Operation Shower is a phenomenal organization. It basically relieves the burden of throwing a baby shower when your spouse or husband or whoever is getting deployed to the military. They have showers in a box that provide you with all the essentials, or for our situation, we’re giving our fashion line, Kardashian Kids, and essentials to all these people. They’ve given over 700,000 of these boxes to families, and it really just releases some of the pressure of not knowing even where to turn to know where to start.”
