This Seattle City Attorney Calmly Brings Marijuana Into City Offices, Apologizes When Caught And Later Smokes It

The legalization of recreational marijuana usage was bound to have some repercussions. However, Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes chose to stretch the risky privilege to its limits. Pete was found strolling into the city main office building with bags of marijuana.

Pete Holmes on Friday apologized for violating workplace rules by bringing the bags of marijuana he purchased from newly-opened Washington state pot shops back to his office. Incidentally, the city attorney is an avid fan of the drug and was one of the very first people to jump in line earlier this week as the first few marijuana retail shops opened across Washington State.

When being accosted about the blatant misuse of the office, Pete had this to say via an official statement on the city’s website:

“When I brought the unopened marijuana to City offices — trying to keep up with a busy schedule — I nonetheless violated the City’s rules,”

Interestingly, he was quick to dismiss the whole incident:

“At the end of the business day, I took the marijuana home and left it there, still unopened, before I participated in the second Community Walk of the Mayor’s Summer of Safety.”

But what’s bizarre was the attempt of throwing money at the problem to appease angry citizens. After profusely apologizing, Pete volunteered to donate $3,000 to a downtown homeless shelter, and voiced his on-going support for the state’s landmark initiative, reported The Huffington Post.

However, the sickening kicker was the fact that on Tuesday, a neatly clad-for-office Pete was seen holding up a brown paper bag carrying marijuana he bought minutes before at Seattle’s first pot shop for a sea of journalists. Apparently, he wanted to “entertain” the press and exercise the recently gained freedom to smoke pot legally. He told the assembled media:

“The most important take away here is that today marijuana sales became legal and I’m here to personally exercise myself this new freedom,”

Pete even explained the content, “I bought two two-gram bags of OG Pearl, which was recommended. I’m keeping one bag for posterity and one for personal enjoyment at some point when it’s appropriate,”

As part of drug-free workplace, it is still illegal to bring any kind of narcotics to any office building. It is an interesting irony for a country that recently legalized the sale and consumption of marijuana in 22 states, reported NBC News.

The attorney eventually managed to find the sense to cite the laws about marijuana possession:

“Not only are controlled substances (like marijuana) banned from city offices, city employees cannot possess them while on city business.”
