Ohio Woman Allegedly Killed Husband With Saran Wrap During Dispute Over Money

In 2001, a woman from Ohio called 911 to report that her husband had committed suicide; now has been charged with his murder.

An extensive investigation into the death of 55-year-old Michael Gabel conducted over the past three years concluded that he didn’t die by committing suicide, but rather by being suffocated with Saran Wrap by his wife, Jeane Harrington.

When the suspect put the call in to 911, she said she had found her husband dead with the Saran Wrap around his head and face, suggesting that Gabel committed suicide.

Duane Streator, police chief of Avon Lake, told reporters on Friday that the death of Gabel was “unusual.” She said, “We know that suicide in this manner is very unusual.”

The police chief added that even though there was no immediate evidence of a physical altercation between the suspect and the victim, the Lorain County coroner concluded that Gabel’s death was caused by asphyxiation, blows to his head and body, and electrical burns.

During the 911 call, Mrs. Harrington, 56, in an attempt to cover up her crime, suggested that her husband left a suicide note and committed suicide due to the massive debts the family had accrued.

Speaking about the argument she and her husband had on the day he died, Streator admitted that she had used a taser gun on Gabel several times during the argument about money.

“He got a letter from the Internal Revenue Service the other day wanting $17,000. And then the following day he got a letter from some collection company wanting $16,000. And tomorrow they’re supposed to sell our home at sheriff’s auction,” she said.

Even though Harrington swears she didn’t kill her husband, stating that she found him dead on the couple’s sofa when she returned home from errands, authorities believe she stunned Gabel multiple times before suffocating him with industrial-strength, restaurant-grade Saran Wrap.

It is not certain that Jeane Harrington will be found guilty, since the evidence, so far, is only circumstantial.
