Randy Orton May Be Used To Develop Roman Reigns Into WWE Superstar

Randy Orton is one of a handful of WWE superstars still standing after the departure of CM Punk and injury to Daniel Bryan, and now the organization may be looking to him to help bring along the next generation superstar, Roman Reigns.

Insiders said the WWE had a long-term strategy to build up Reigns to a premier superstar, but the situation with Bryan and CM Punk has pushed those plans along more quickly than originally planned.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the plan will be to have Roman Reigns enter into a feud with Randy Orton, with a match that will leading to Roman facing off against Triple H.

This means that the WWE could be calling Randy Orton into action, loosening his connection with the Authority in order to focus more on a feud with Roman Reigns. The feud would let the WWE veteran Orton help push Reigns’ stature and lend a bit of credibility to his sudden rise.

Fans seem to want to see this as well. Give Me Sport writer Raza Kazi noted that a Roman Reigns/Randy Orton feud could be a big draw to the WWE:

“… We need Reigns to face off with a dangerous Randy Orton, the actual Viper himself and not someone doing The Authority’s dirty work. We know just how evil and sly Randy can be, he needs to bring back those days in a feud with Reigns to make himself the most hated man in the company once more, and make Reigns the most loved.”

Insiders believe it would be in the WWE’s best interests to push Roman Reigns, who has a big ring presence and great potential. So far most of his work has been with The Shield, though the WWE has started to give Reigns some work in singles events.

This talent has been noticed by Triple H, WWE superstar and chief operating officer. He lined up Kane, Randy Orton, and Roman Reigns against John Cena in a Fatal 4-way encounter at the Battleground PPV on Sunday, July 20.

“You hear the reaction Roman Reigns gets. I mean I look at it like this, in some ways it’s best for business. I give Roman Reigns an opportunity to become WWE world heavyweight champion,” Triple H said. “I know John Cena knows how bad Roman Reigns wants to be champion. I’ve seen the look in his eye so I know that Cena’s seen the look in his eye. I also know that Cena’s well aware of how popular Roman Reigns is. That’s a collision course.”

It’s not entirely clear when a Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton feud could take place, but WWE insiders believe it’s sooner rather than later.
