Ariana Grande Has ‘Problem’ With Miley Cyrus Comparisons

Ariana Grande is making the successful transition from former child star to adult chart topper with her hit song “Problem.” But the constant comparison to Miley Cyrus — another former tweener turned pop superstar — has her a feeling bit annoyed.

According to The Daily Star, Ariana Grande has been shedding her clothes in an attempt to shed her child star image. Naturally, if a former Nickelodeon actress like Grande shows more skin, many people immediately make the comparison to Disney child star Miley Cyrus and how she took drastic measures to release herself from her Hannah Montana past. Ariana, however, is insisting that her transition is nothing like Miley’s and that any comparison should end there.

“I’m not thinking: ‘Miley Cyrus is doing this so I ought to do this too.'” Grande told The Daily Star. “We are all trying to do our own things and be successful in our own right.”

She is, however, excited by the idea of progressing not only in her musical career, but as a woman in the public spotlight as well. “I’m always excited by people evolving, changing and growing up. I just get to showcase it on stage,” Ariana said.

The price for fame however can be a large one, the singer admits, and in many ways the comparison to Miley Cyrus is accurate. Cyrus’ every move is dissected in the public eye and on the internet, and Grande is starting to feel that way too:

“In the past month things have changed drastically in my life. I can’t go out with a little bun on my head and no make-up any more.”

This kind of scrutiny is all thanks to her hit track “Problem,” which just became number one in 64 countries. And according to Billboard, Ariana made history when she became the very first pop singer to have a No. 1 U.K. single based on a new method of combining sales and streaming.

“Grande’s ‘Problem’ featuring Australian rapper Iggy Azalea achieved chart sales of 113,000 copies, comprising 106,000 sales and 712,000 streams, according to sales measuring body the Official Charts Company (OCC), which compiles the British singles chart.”

Despite this success, and shrugging off Miley Cyrus comparisons, Ariana’s world is not 100 percent smiles all around. As reported by The Inquisitr, Grande had to cancel two shows and some promo work recently to be with her ailing grandfather back in Florida. She took to Twitter express the unfortunate news:
