Based on Suzanne Collins’ best selling science fiction/action novel, the forth coming movie tells the tale of a dystopic future and the annual “Hunger Games,” a government controlled fight to the death on live television.

Playing the role of Katniss Everdeen, one of the “games’” participants, Lawrence joins a cast that includes Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Toby Jones, Donald Sutherland and more.

Although The Hunger Games isn’t slated to hit theaters until next year, Jennifer’s co-star Elizabeth Banks recently revealed that the movie will be well worth the wait:

“We’re almost done,” Banks told ComingSoon.net in an exclusive interview. “We’ve got a little under a month left. It’s very exciting. We’re really making a provocative movie that’s also highly entertaining. It’s gonna be fun. It’s really great to make something that you know people are excited about and also that you know is gonna deliver. I really think the fans are gonna love it.”

The first installment of The Hunger Games film trilogy arrives in theaters on March 23, 2012. The second film in the post-apocalyptic series, Catching Fire, will arrive about 20 months later on November 22, 2013.

For those of you that have read both the Twilight and Hunger Games series, which is better and why?

Hello, casting directors – get it right. Here is your better Catwoman.. your hands-down Wonder Woman.. and capable of playing any central role, as her Oscar proves.

  2. My niece (as Cat woman) would put Lawrence to shame!

  3. The Hunger Games will forever be better than Twilight because Katniss isn't a defenseless girl and teaching the girls of today that the need a man to live a full life. Katniss can kick ass all on her own!

  4. I am a HUGE fan of "The Hunger Games"!!!!!

  5. Happy Birthday Jenny! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOU IN THE HUNGER GAMES!

  6. Hunger games= Running Man.

Jennifer is so awesome! I can't believe she's come so far in fame since Winter's Bone! She definitely deserves it, I have to say she's the best actress around. She just gets so into her role, it's like, in every movie, she's a completely different person, and she really does invoke the feelings of the characters she plays. That's why she's the perfect person to play Katniss. I've read all the books. I can SEE Katniss in Jennifer Lawrence.

  8. Ummm. Where did Catwoman come into this? I think the question was Twilight vs. Hunger Games. I believe it depends on what the person likes at the time. Twilight for the rediculous romantic who wants to be overcome with dramatic situations and think about what a certain boy thinks about you all day/ terrible writing. Or a heroic character who also in a fickle love triangle, which was pretty annoying at times, but was also a stong compassionate fighter forced into a situation To fight for her life for the ones she loves. Hunger Games had the background romantic story but also had great writing compared to the former and focused on the subject of survival and revolution that made you excited to want to see what happens next…. instead of a will they wont they make this more interesting than what angst Bella is feeling at the moment.

Please stop comparing Twilight and The Hunger Games -.- And of course the Hunger Games is better. Great plot, action, just enough romance, and a deep meaning.

If you compare only the first books of the two series, The Hunger Games is the outright winner. It has far better ideas, structure, and themes. However, I was very disappointed with the last two books in the Hunger Games series. It seemed like the author was far more scatterbrained and the story was recycled. There were far too many loose ends that Collins didn't tie up, and the ending seemed grim and completely joyless. In my opinion, though Twilight has nearly no literary merit and is merely a guilty pleasure for me, at least the two succeeding books (New Moon and Eclipse) increased in quality. I'm not a fan of the fourth book. If I were to teach both of these books in my classes (I'm a 9th and 10th grade English teacher), I'd hands-down choose the Hunger Games. It would at least offer the opportunity for my class to discuss human rights, the power of government over the people, the enormous effect the media–reality television in particular–has on our lives today, and how a media-obsessed society like ours might progress. Twilight can be compared loosely to Romeo and Juliet (the star-crossed lovers), but that's about it. The Hunger Games would also appeal more to both boys and girls, where Twilight is targeted much more towards girls. Katniss is a resourceful, smart, and independent teenager who can think for herself, while Bella literally falls apart when Edward leaves her in New Moon (Was anyone else disgusted by the four blank pages marking the months after he left? As if your life simply does not go on if you have a break-up! NOT a good message to be sending our young girls.) The Hunger Games also has a much better overall message: It's about overcoming the odds and overcoming a much larger, much more sinister oppressive force, whereas Twilight is simply about how important it is to have a boyfriend.
