‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’, President Snow’s ‘Unity’ Announcement Interrupted By District 13

Surrounded by the purity of the color white, President Snow sits upon his throne to address the masses of his beloved Panem. To his right is Peeta Mallark, one of the victors of the Hunger Games prior to the third Quarter Quell. To his left is Johanna Mason, a beautiful woman who may appear feeble, but is probably the most dangerous Hunger Games victor of them all. Feeling secure with them by his side, he turns to the camera which in turn activates. Millions of people throughout the land can now see him. President Snow clears his throat as he speaks out:

“From this great nation, never have we been more unified. It is now more than ever, Panem is speaking with one voice. Capitol and the districts bound together in the salt of the earth. Together…”

Then it happens. The feed is cut as a phantom appears across a million television screens. It is District 13, and they say something that freezes President Snow’s black heart:

“The Mockingjay LIVES!”

Sounds intense right? Well that is exactly what the second trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is. Uploaded on Youtube on the official Hunger Games Channel, the video reveals a couple of new things. First, Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) appears on the left side of President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Just like in the first trailer, Peeta Mallark (Josh Hutcherson) is on President Snow’s right side. During the interruption by District 13, we find out that Beetee Latier (Jeffrey Wright) is the one responsible for the hack as he let’s the districts know that the Mockingjay, who is of course Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), lives.

For those who haven’t read the book, the fact that Peeta and Johanna are standing next to President Snow shows a difference, which I am about to state so if you don’t want a spoiler, skip this paragraph. In the book Mockingjay, Peeta and Johanna are kept in cells and constantly tortured for information. The fact they are standing next to President Snow in the trailer suggests brainwashing over torture and interrogation.

Daily Mail actually has some more information about the third movie along with their follow-up. This includes that Julianne Moore will be playing President Alma Coin, who is the power-hungry leader of District 13. Also, Philip Seymour Hoffman will play his final screen appearance as Plutarch Heavensbee.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is scheduled to release at the box office on Novermber 21, 2014. Until then, you can enjoy the world of Panem thanks to the official Capitol Website.
