Look: Drawings So Good, You Won’t Believe They’re Not Photos

Want to see something cool? Spend a couple of minutes checking out these graphite drawings from Malaysian artist Monica Lee. You simply won’t believe they’re hand-drawn.

We came across Lee’s magnificent graphite renderings courtesy of Ignant, and we were just blown away. Lee works in a number of media, but some of her best work appears to be when she picks up graphite and white pastel pencil.

Lee studied drawing in art school, and she says the secret of her beautiful renderings is an incredible attention to detail.

“I like to challenge myself with complex portraits,” Lee says, “especially people with freckles or beard. And I’m addicted to details. I like drawing in as much detail as I can into my work.”

And how long does it take to create these amazing works? According to The Wall Street Journal, Lee’s most challenging piece, Shanghai, took six weeks to create.

As you can imagine, Lee’s got no small amount of patience, and that’s what she prescribes for other aspirants that are jealous of her work.

“You just need lots of patience and practice.”

If you’re as amazed by Lee’s work as we are, you’ll be happy to know you can keep up with her latest creations on the internet. Lee regularly posts work to both her Instagram and Facebook feeds.
