‘Bachelorette’ Slammed: Was Eric Hill Exploited By ‘Bachelorette’ Producers?

Producers of The Bachelorette are being slammed today after the way they handled the death of Eric Hill. According to Hollywood Life, the way in which the cast was told about Hill’s passing and the subsequent crying/hugging while the cameras were essentially left on the floor to capture the moments was “borderline exploitative.

As most people know, Bachelorette contestant Eric Hill died in a paragliding accident back in April. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the cast and crew mourned together and this was aired on Monday night’s episode (after hometown dates). All of the remaining contestants, Andi Dorfman, and the production team were seen hugging one another and weeping… in host Chris Harrison’s house.

Eric Hill

The Bachelorette family has never dealt with something like this while filming. While cast members have passed away over the years, dealing with a sudden death of someone who lived in the Bachelor mansion just weeks prior was new to all involved. And while one might say that the emotions felt were real and that everyone genuinely felt awful about what happened, others think that Eric Hill could have been remembered in a different, more respectful way.

Andrew Gruttadaro over at Hollywood Life writes:

“The way ‘The Bachelorette handled it, it more or less became all about Andi, her bachelors, and even the crew and how they all reacted to the death. Andi seemed broken up because she had been mean to Eric in their last conversation before she sent him home, not because a young, kind soul was gone. It was all about her! Her feelings! Her anguish! Her difficult ‘journey’ that she has to continue!”

The Bachelorette was previously called out by The Bustle, for using Eric Hill’s death to tease an upcoming episode of the show. The site called the promotional tactics “cheap and insensitive” and a lot of fans agreed. Do you think Eric Hill’s death should have been a part of the show in such a way? Would it have been better to release a statement from Eric’s family, do a video montage, and leave it at that?

Do you think Bachelorette producers used Eric Hill’s death to their advantage? Sound off in the comments below.
