Jennie Garth Reunites With 90210 Co-Star Tori Spelling In Critically Panned Sitcom

Jennie Garth had a reunion of sorts with former Beverly Hills 90210 co-star Tori Spelling, but judging by critics’ reactions it is one that both actresses might want to forget.

The two are co-starring in the new comedy series Mystery Girls, a show that critics are calling terrible.

News.com.au notes that the show has an “overpowering laugh track” and has already lost 40 percent of its audience after the pilot episode.

The show’s official description reads:

“Charlie Contour (Garth) is a suburban housewife and mother, while Holly Hamilton (Spelling) longs for her glory days in the 90s when she was on television. Both of their lives are disrupted when Nick (Miguel Pinzon), a witness to a crime and a Mystery Girls fanatic, will only speak to the infamous duo and the former friends must reunite and put their TV crime-solving skills to the test.”

Jennie Garth said she picked the project because “it’s more fun than doing a drama.” The more relaxed schedule also allows Spelling and Garth to spend time with their families.

“The schedule, the hours. We both have a lot of kids so it’s like banker’s hours compared to doing an episodic show like an hour-long drama or something,” Garth told The Associated Press.

Tori Spelling also said she much prefers working in comedy.

“I did the best I could on 90210. Like I tried to make Donna funny,” she said. “I was in a drama. Everyone else was great at drama, but I was like, ‘I think I’m better at comedy so how can I interject comedy here and there?’ and so Donna was kind of goofy, and I did things here and there, but I was always, this is harder for me. I wish I could do comedy.”

Those who want to check out Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling in Mystery Girls can tune in to ABC Family on Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m.
