WWE News: Roman Reigns’ Recent Interview Alludes To Wanting To Be Top Guy In WWE

Impact Wrestling’s Bobby Roode calls himself the “It Factor,” but he is madly mistaken in that category. Roman Reigns already claimed that title after stepping into a WWE ring over two years ago. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that Reigns has the true “It” factor in professional wrestling.

Reigns stopped by to speak with SLAM! Magazine about the Shield breaking up, working with his the Usos (his cousins), working in WWE developmental and his ultimate goals for his career. By focusing on Reigns’ goals in wrestling, one quote out-shined the entire interview. He simply wants to be the best.

I want to raise the bar, to be the actual best performer, to be the best man possible, to be the biggest WWE superstar the world’s ever seen,” he explained. “Those are my goals. I want to be the top guy, to run this company, to run the locker room and just make this product better in general.”

Reigns is on the path a guy like John Cena, Randy Orton, the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin took to become the top guy in their definitive era. Reigns started on a different path than either man. He was a part of the Shield, arguably the greatest stable in professional wrestling history.

Cena, Rock, Austin and Orton opened up their careers in single’s competition, while Reigns had help from the get-go. If anything, it helped Reigns, as well as Rollins and Ambrose, establish their reputation from the start. Look at where the three men are now: Rollins is the MITB briefcase holder, Ambrose is a huge babyface already and Reigns is in main events on Raw and pay-per-views.

It’s already being rumored that Reigns will be victorious in the 2015 Royal Rumble. WWE isn’t being subtle in his push to the top, but they are taking the necessary steps to ensure longevity and stability from the fan’s perspective. Other superstars like Ryback and Sheamus were pushed way too fast, then suffered a downfall into oblivion for a period of time.

WWE cannot risk letting Reigns fall into the mid-card. After that happens, it’s a long climb back to the top. In fact, Ryback hasn’t fought in a main event since his monster push fell flat.

It is the little things that are getting Reigns over. For example, WWE ended the show last week with a stare-down between Triple H and Reigns. Last night, Reigns called out Cena when the crowd chanted, “Cena sucks!” and stared him down at the end of Monday Night Raw as well.

Roman Reigns and John Cena

Just like historic photos involving the Rock and Hulk Hogan, Rock and Cena are now happening with Reigns and Cena. From the previous era’s top guy to the next one, the metamorphosis of Reigns is almost complete. It will be the ultimate culmination at WrestleMania 31 when Reigns becomes the next WWE World Heavyweight champion.

Of course, that isn’t until next year, but the pieces are falling into place.

The only thing Reigns needs to work on is the promo work. It’s getting better, quite like Rollins, but something is still missing. Jim Ross, legendary announcer, commented on Reigns’ opening segment and gave the big man props.

WWE has a gem in Reigns. Sooner or later, Reigns and Cena will meet at a big pay-per-view worth all the marbles. It will be reminiscent of the Rock vs. Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 18. When that day comes, the torch will officially be passed and what a glorious day it will be for the WWE Universe.
