Amazing Video Shows How Pilots Avoided A Fatal Plane Crash At The Last Moment!

This has to be among the scariest videos you might have seen all year. Captured by an aviation enthusiast at Barcelona in Spain, the video shows a near miss between two planes at the airport. The incident could have led to a fatal plane crash, claiming several lives.

In the video, an Aerolineas Argentineas Airbus A340 is initially seen taxiing. Later, two planes are seen approaching the runway to land — obviously after getting the all-clear go ahead to do so. All this while, you do not see anything out of the ordinary — much less something that could lead to a plane crash.

As the landing plane approaches the runway, you can make out that it happens to be a Russian owned UT Air Boeing 767. In the same frame, you can also see the Airbus A340 approaching the runway in an attempt to cross it. As evident from the video, both the planes were on course for a collision had either of them not taken evasive action. Thankfully, the pilot of the landing UT Air plane seems to have seen the A340 and aborts landing in the last minute and performs a go-around. He increases the thrust, retracts the landing gear and takes off again to try and land again — avoiding a certain plane crash.

The video of the incident was posted by aviation enthusiast Miguel Angel to his YouTube channel. Needless to say, the video immediately went viral and has since notched up over 3 million views. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Miguel later told reporters that seeing this scary “near plane crash” incident in front of his eyes was one of the worst experiences he have ever had.

This is the description of the event in his own words:

“An Utair Boeing 767-300 (VQ-BSX) incoming from Moscow as UT5187 and Aerolíneas Argentinas Airbus A340-300 (LV-FPV) were involved in what could be a big disaster at Barcelona Airport. The Utair 767 was about to land on Runway 02 while the Argentinas was crossing the runway. The Russian pilots saw Argentinas (they were taxiing to Holding point of RW25R for take-off) on runway while they were on final approach, they did their best making an impressive and close go around. After that incident, the plane landed safely on runway 02, and the Argentinas took-off heading to Buenos Aires.”

It is unclear if the authorities are investigating the incident to see who was at fault. Meanwhile, SMH consulted John Holmes, a flight training manager at Ansett Aviation Training to inquire about the circumstances in which such a mistake could happen. This is what Holmes had to say:

“The instructions to the A340 possibly were misunderstood by the captain, or they might not have heard or acknowledged the instructions, or there may have been no instruction issued from the control tower. Normally a ‘hold short’ instruction would be issued to the taxiing aircraft, ordering the pilots to stop the plane and not pass on to the runway.”

This scary go around comes just a day after The Inquisitr reported about another near miss at Houston which the FAA is investigating. Do you think a plane crash was certain in this case had it not been for the quick action by the Russian pilots?
