Bo Dallas: Why He Interrupted Daniel Bryan Before Money In The Bank

Bo Dallas is inarguably one of the best heel performers the WWE has to offer, though it may not always appear that way.

See, most of the time when Dallas heads to the ring to do his syrupy sweet heel-who-thinks-he’s-a-face gimmick, he gets a lot of cheers.

Yours truly has found himself looking forward to the Bo Dallas segments of Raw and Smackdown more than the main event matches.

For the most part, he does absolutely nothing heelish. If this character were in the 1980s, we’d love him. But these days, wrestling audiences see through BS better than they used to, and that means Dallas needn’t do anything more than what he’s currently doing to come across as the bad guy.

Now, prior to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, WWE made the interesting decision of sending him out to interrupt Daniel Bryan as the former champ addressed the audience regarding his injuries and being stripped of the title.

WrestleZone reports on why the company made this move, stating that it was “because not many people are booing him” and that “WWE wants to book Dallas as a heel and this was deemed to be the best guy for the fans to cheer while they boo Bo…. This is also the same reason why he attacked El Torito on Smackdown.”

It did seem a tad strange considering Daniel Bryan is a main-eventer now, and Bo Dallas is barely even mid-card. However, it’s also a vote of confidence and a well-earned one at that.

Dallas is unbelievable on the mic. He buys in to this character 100 percent. And his ring skills are top-notch. To reach his full potential, he will need to start getting some authentic boos, and this move by the WWE is a good start.

Here are a couple of more ideas on how to book him better:

Have him start forcing his services on the top company faces — the ones that audiences really love — and causing them to lose, but then acting like he was just trying to help. He could even screw up a PPV/special event ending. For the right match, that could really get the job done.

Do more “moment of silence” sketches. When he broke this out in honor of “fallen” heroes Daniel Bryan and “Bad News” Barrett, there was nothing funny about it. You kept waiting for him to do something funny, but instead, there was just a long, uncomfortable silence reminiscent of how Andy Kaufman would break out a book and read to audiences who were yelling for him to do his Taxi character’s voice.

WWE could grow some real heat for Bo Dallas by having him do things like this along with the humorous gimmick. Changing it up often would keep audiences on their toes and prevent them from totally falling for the character.
