‘Lopez Tonight’ Airs Last Show Tomorrow Night, TBS Cancels Late Night Talk Show

TBS on Wednesday announced that they have cancelled George Lopez’s late night talk show “Lopez Tonight.”

According to a company statement:

“TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight,” while calling the shows host, “an immensely talented comedian and entertainer.”

The show will air it’s final episode tomorrow night (Thursday).

Lopez Tonight began airing in November 2009 as TBS attempted to build a late night talk show series which was later added to when Conan O’Brien signed a deal with the network which pushed Lopez and his show to a later time slot (Midnight).

The network has not said if the series will be replaced by a new talk show, however with Conan remaining as one of the networks flagship programs and O’Brien owning the rights to his own talk show, there’s a chance the comedian may produce a new TV series to follow his own.

If O’Brien creates a new show he would be following in the footsteps of Letterman who in 1995 created “The Late Late Show” per an agreement he forged with CBS.

Lopez’s exit from the network removes the only Latino talk show host during the late night hours.

I will personally miss Lopez who often used hilarious parodies to address serious issues including immigration, children reading programs and other national and international issues.

What do you think about TBS cancelling the show with almost no notice at all for fans of the series. I only hope Lopez was given slightly more notice to prepare for his final episode.
